At 10:30 a.m. March 5, 1997 at Bint al Bahr Arabians, a very special Babson colt  was born!

Bint Roulett is well-known as a hearty eater, so Diana waited to give Bint her grain while she hurried out to finish a few last farm chores. This last chore would take Diana far away from the foaling stall. Bint Roulett eagerly dug into her grain. When Diana was at the far end of the farm, she looked back and could see Bint Roulett laying down on the straw.

Diana hurried back to find Bint Roulett back at the grain bucket eating again while her water broke.  A few more bites and it was time to foal.  A smooth easy delivery followed.  As she licked her colt, she left bits of grain on him which she then very carefully licked back off again!

The first foal visitors were charmed by Bint Roulett into giving her a full back massage while they admired her colt. She stretched and wiggled with pleasure encouraging their magic fingers to continue their work. She was reluctant to let them leave and stood blocking the gate out.  She was determined to remain the center of their attention!

His Birth Statistics  -   The colt was 37.5 inches tall at the withers with a 31 inch girth. Lifted onto the scales by Bruce, the colt weighed in at a hefty 90 pounds. Bint Roulett carried him for 336 days and her previous foal was carried for 327 days. That filly, Fabah Mahrena (by Ahmed Fabah) weighed only about 70 pounds.

This is the first replacement foal for the 1978 Babson stallion Ibn Lothar within the Babson bloodlines although he has sired many beautiful foals within Al Khamsa and Sheykh Obeyd groups.

Until Abbas Ibn Lothar was born, Ibn Lothar was the last of the Lothar sire line in Babson Arabians.  This colt brings that rare sireline  forward another generation.  Abbas Ibn Lothar is currently (2007) the only breeding sireline Lothar stallion (until his two sons are of age).  He is the only Heirloom Babson sireline Lothar stallion (2007).  As of 2007 there are only 7 Babsons that trace in any line of pedigree to Lothar.  The first step to changing that rarity is to identify it.

This colt has grown nicely into the image of his long-legged sire.  Abbas Ibn Lothar moves elegantly and could follow in his sire's dressage career.

Abbas Ibn Lothar was named with love and respect in memory of John Fippen and in honor of John's much-loved stallion  Ibn Lothar, the sire of this colt,

"Abbas" was a fond nickname for John Fippen.
